This event was created with kids in mind. It has been my goal for some time to use a fun run event to help support and inspire kids to be physically active. Girls on the Run embodies the very mission I was looking for, to support a program that develops self-esteem and provides support for kids growing up. My hope is that you not only come out to support and participate in this event but support a cause that will help change and mold the future of our kids!

~ Dan Persse, Race Director

Girls on the Run of Northwest Washington is a character development program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles. The highly interactive curriculum combines self-esteem enhancing lessons with uplifting workouts aimed to develop the Whole girl; her physical, mental, emotional and social self. The program culminates in a non-competitive 5k race event which gives the girls a chance to shine and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. Through Girls on the Run, young girls are empowered with greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement, and a foundation in team building to help them become strong, contented and confident women. Girls on the Run of NW Washington delivers the program at elementary schools throughout Whatcom County in the following school districts: Bellingham, Ferndale, Blaine and Mt. Baker. All program sites are coached by female volunteers who live healthy lifestyles and are committed to improving the lives of girls. If you are interested in starting a program at your local elementary school, please contact Jen Gallant at (360) 733-8630.

Girls on the Run of NW Washington is an affiliate program of the Whatcom Family YMCA. www.whatcomymca.org
